Total War: WARHAMMER will be available in the standard edition, Limited Edition and the extremely rare High King Edition. In addition, February 2017 will see the release of the Old World Edition.

In February 2017 we will be releasing a new edition of Total War: WARHAMMER with selected high street retailers. The big news is that it comes with a new playable race – Bretonnia. Why should you care if you already own Total War: WARHAMMER? Because you can download the Bretonnia Race Pack for free then too!

A contrast of lowly peasant masses and proud knightly orders, the feudal kingdom of Bretonnia features a host of powerful units and is lead into battle by a choice of three playable Legendary Lords; King Louen Leoncoeur, Alberic of Bordeleaux and the Fay Enchantress. More details about this iconic Warhammer Fantasy Battles Race will be revealed in the new year.

We’ve answered some of the most likely questions below.

What’s in the Total War: WARHAMMER – Old World Edition?It is the original game, plus the Bretonnia Race Pack and an exclusive novella, ‘The Prince of Altdorf’ by Total War Writer Andy Hall.

Does it come with all the DLC? Is it a GoTY or Gold version?No, it’s the original game and the Bretonnia Race Pack, and all the free-LC we’ve released to date of course. There are no plans to release a Gold or GoTY version of the game currently.

Why are you releasing this Edition?It’s a great opportunity to mark the inclusion of a great and iconic Warhammer Fantasy Battles race, and a great point for anyone who hasn’t dived into the Total War: WARHAMMER game yet to get on board.

What will existing players get?If you already own Total War: WARHAMMER, your game will be updated, and you will see the Bretonnia Race Pack available for free download in the Steam store. However, ‘The Prince of Altdorf’ novella is only available with physical copies of the game.

You said Bretonnia was coming this year, why is it delayed till February?As we mentioned at the time, our free content plan is subject to change, and we took the opportunity of repackaging the game to add in more content for Bretonnia, with additional units and a third Legendary Lord for example.

Is anymore DLC coming for Total War: WARHAMMER?Yes, our next major DLC expansion, and the next Free-LC is due before Christmas. It is growing now, there will be more news soon.

What are the differences between these editions?

The High King Edition is modelled on the legendary Book of Grudges, and will ship in a large ornate presentation box, featuring metallic gold and 3D sculpted detail in the iconic Dwarfen style. Contained within is a host of treasures guaranteed to sate the gold-lust of the mightiest Dwarfen High King. Including:

Chaos Warrior DLC for Total War: WARHAMMER, Now Free Week One

We’d like to announce that the Chaos Warriors Race pack will now be offered free to players who purchase Total War: WARHAMMER in the first week on sale, as well as if you pre-order.

By extending the free period deadline by a week past launch, we can make sure more people who don’t feel like pre-ordering don’t miss out.

But at the same time we still get to reward early adopters, who’s support is so valuable to us.

Retailers who are currently supporting the pre-order will continue offering the DLC for free into the first week, with the free period coming to an end at 18:00 BST on the 31st May.

What’s a ‘participating retailer’?Any retailer that is already offering the Chaos Warriors Race Pack as a Pre-order will also be making it available for free to people who buy the game during the first week on sale. You should always check with your preferred retailer to make sure though.

Does this affect the contents of the Collector’s Edition?No, the Chaos Warriors will still be included in that Edition.

When will the free Chaos Warrior Race Pack offer end?At 18:00 BST on the 31st May 2016.

Has the release date for the game changed?No, the game will still release on the 24th May 2016.

Since the pre-order information for Total War: Warhammer was first announced, the developers at The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA have been offering the Chaos warriors race pack, which adds a new faction for gamers to control on the campaign map. It's worth mentioning it is available for those who are willing to pay for the strategy title early.

Now the two companies are revealing that they are extending the offer to all those who pick up the title during its first week on the market, until 18 Greenwich Mean time on May 31.

The Creative Assembly states, 'If you’ve already pre-ordered then, of course, you still get the bonus, but by extending the free period deadline by a week past launch, we can make sure more people who don’t feel like pre-ordering don’t miss out while at the same time we still get to reward early adopters, whose support is so valuable to us.'

The Chaos Warriors have been kept under wraps until now. However, a new video shows the race in full action, with the Let's Play giving gamers a look at one of their Legendary Lords, the powerful Kholek Suneater, a Dragon Ogre who appears on the battlefield using a hammer that's the size of a building and covered in lightning.

Total War: Warhammer will deliver a wide range of DLC after launch

The Creative Assembly will also probably offer the Chaos warrior pack as a standalone purchase at a later date, giving any fan who wants more content a chance to pick it up.

The studio has also announced that it has extensive support plans for Total War: Warhammer and wants to expand the kinds of choices that gamers can make via downloadable content packs.

Those who love free additions will get the normal updates that will improve the game balance and eliminate bugs while also receiving access to more units, extra Legendary Lords, and even entire new factions.

The Creative Assembly also wants to deliver the same kind of content in paid downloadable content for Total War: Warhammer, using a system that has worked well for recent releases like Attila and Rome.

The strategy game that will use the Games Workshop universe is the first of a trilogy, and to make it as authentic as possible, the developers have modified some of the main systems of their series, including the way provinces can be occupied and used and the way siege battles work.

Total War: Warhammer will be launched on the PC and will be available starting May 24.
